Pura Vida bracelets for a cause!

Pura Vida is a website that I found a while ago. They started out just selling cute little bracelets, but it has morphed into much more than that. They now sell head bands and ponytail holders, keychains, iPhone cases, hats, and home decor!

I entered a contest and would LOVE if you'd like my comment on their blog. :)
Go to this website and scroll to the bottom to the Facebook plug in.
My name is Haylie Michele Reynolds.

My comment says, "My favorite Pura Vida Charity bracelet would be the American Heart Association bracelet. Two weeks before my 8th birthday my dad died of a massive heart attack. He'd had heart problems his entire life and had open heart surgery when I was younger. Also, both of my grandparents have had heart problems. My grandpa has had open heart surgery as well and my grandma has had stents put in. Cardiovascular disease is something that has unfortunately been a very big part of my life. The AHA bracelet is very close to my heart. I LOVE that a part of the proceeds goes to the American Heart Association and hope that one day, cardiovascular disease will be able to be prevented 100% and no one will have to go through the loss of anyone to this terrible disease ever again. :)"

The Story Behind the String...
A five week college graduation trip to Costa Rica turned into a business venture for two Southern California friends Griffin Thall and Paul Goodman. Between the beautiful sunsets and the rolling breakers, it wasn't long before these two friends began to deeply appreciate and fall in love with the simple Pura Vida lifestyle and culture of the people they encountered. This is how it all began...

During a visit to a small community in Costa Rica, they crossed paths with two men named Jorge and Joaquin who were peddling bracelets on the street. The colorful bracelets were handmade in a simple way that seemed to capture the essence of their journey. When they first met Jorge and Joaquin, they were living in a single room with three beds shared by several other members of their family. Seeing this, Paul and Griffin asked them if they would be willing to make 400 bracelets to take back to the United States with them. Jorge was delighted to make such a sell, and the guys were thrilled to help them out, but to everyones good fortune, soon after returning to the states their friendship blossomed into a full-fledged business relationship.

Upon returning to California, Paul and Griffin decided to put the bracelets into a bowl at a local boutique shop close to home. It didn't take long until they all sold out and people were asking for more. They realized these simple string bracelets were more than just your everyday bracelet, they were a movement. Pura Vida is more than just a saying, it's a lifestyle representing the simple things in life.

The phrase “Pura Vida” (pu·ra vi·da) means pure life in Spanish. Enjoying life slowly, celebrating good fortune and not taking anything for granted embodies the Pura Vida Lifestyle. It's about being free and living life to it's fullest with no regrets or taking anything for granted; it's an attitude. Pura Vida directly translates into "Pure Life", simple as that.

Now, they are able to give Jorge and Joaquin enough business to live comfortably in a house of their own and have 30 of their amigos work with them. Jorge and Joaquin went from selling a few bracelets a week to now over 20,000 a week. Their bracelets are now being sold in 2,500+ surf shops, boutiques, college book stores, and a few large chain stores around the world.

Each bracelet has a unique and different color combination so coming across someone with your exact bracelet will be a tough find. The hard work that goes into making each bracelet represents the dedication and respect for the beautiful land that we all live in. Selecting your “Pura Vida” bracelet isn’t always a quick task. Local jewelers spend days, even weeks creating specific bracelets to express their lifestyle. From vibrant colors to earth tones, Pura Vida Bracelets has any combination for you.

Pura Vida is also a member of One Percent for the Planet and donates a portion of its proceeds to the Surfrider Foundation, a grassroots foundation dedicated to cleaning up beaches and oceans around the world.

The Cause Behind Our Story...
Pura Vida Bracelets strongly believes in giving back. After traveling around the world and seeing beaches filled with trash and debris, we wanted to make it not only a point to help, but a mission. There is no reason why our beautiful beaches and oceans should be left destroyed.

Therefore, with every Pura Vida Bracelet sold, we donate 1% back to The Surfrider Foundation through 1% for the Planet. The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to protecting as well as preserving beaches and oceans worldwide. They have over 50,000 members and completed over 140,000 hours of volunteer work. We are seeking to improve those numbers and truly change how people treat the oceans and beaches that surround us.

In addition to cleaning up beaches around the world, we aim to provide more and more full time jobs to the amazingly talented artisans of Costa Rica. After our time spent traveling all over Costa Rica, and building our close relationship with Jorge and Joaquin, we came to realize that with very little tourism and the low paying jobs, local jewelers have a difficult time making ends meet. From the exponential growth of Pura Vida Bracelets throughout the United States and around the world, we are now able to fully support full-time work for 30 talented artisans. Our goal is to see that number grow and be able to provide as many jobs possible and get their beautifully hand-crafted jewelry on the wrists of everyone in the world. From Costa Rica to around the world, Pura Vida for life! :)

Pura Vida also has a line of causes bracelets that are all different colors and there's 150 different causes. $1 of every purchase goes straight back to the cause! I think that's pretty freaking awesome! There are causes that range from PCOS to all military branches to several different cancers to the American Heart Association to SIDS to PTSD to LGBT and many many many more. There are SO MANY DIFFERENT CAUSES.

I strongly suggest you check them out and maybe buy a bracelet... or 10. :)
